School for Student Leadership - Our Aims. Our Mission.
David Chlebna

David ChlebnaI have been involved in the Alpine School Program since 2001 and I can’t think of a better teaching job for me. I love living and working in the alpine environment in Dinner Plain. My passion is inspiring young people to get the best out of themselves during their time at our school. As the curriculum co-ordinator I relish the opportunity to work with a group of staff to create a program each term that enables students to learn, experience and grow. This occurs through students being challenged and supported through a curriculum that focusses on the needs of young people today.

I was initially a liaison teacher when I worked at Bundoora SC in Melbourne, where I was employed as a PE/Science teacher.  During my time as a liaison teacher visiting my students at the Alpine School I fell in love with the program and the Alpine environment.

So when a position became available at the Alpine School in 2003 I went for it and have been enjoying working and learning with year 9 students ever since. It is always inspiring seeing the development students undergo during their Alpine School experience. It definitely inspired me to follow my own dreams and become a full- time ski patroller at Mt Hotham for the winter months between 2007 and 2010. I am still currently a volunteer ski patroller and 1st Lieutenant of the Mt Hotham/Dinner Plain Fire Brigade. I value and try to contribute to the community I live in with my family. I met my wife at the school back in 2003 and we married in 2010. Eleanor our daughter was born in 2012 and enjoys her visits to the school and meeting each group of students. We love our life in magical Dinner Plain.

Along with playing in the snow I also enjoy surfing, tennis, listening to music and improving the table tennis skills of students. I look forward to meeting and working with you.

School For Student Leadership

School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) initiative offering a unique residential education experience for year nine students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and team learning projects sourced from students' home regions. There are four campuses in iconic locations across Victoria. The Alpine School Campus is located at Dinner Plain in the Victorian Alps. Snowy River Campus is near the mouth of the Snowy River at Marlo in east Gippsland. The third site is adjacent to Mount Noorat near Camperdown in Victoria’s Western District, and is called Gnurad-Gundidj. After consultation with the local aboriginal community, this name represents both the indigenous name of the local area and an interpretation of the statement "belonging to this place". Our fourth and newest campus, Don Valley Campus is located at Don Valley in the Yarra Ranges.
