Alpine Lessons - Peer Skills |
The Peer Skills program is an interactive learning experience designed to acknowledge and build on the natural listening, helping and problem solving skills of young people. The program helps young people develop their relationship skills and increases their confidence in safely assisting a friend or peer who is experiencing a problem. In the first lesson, students set their own boundaries and guidelines for group discussion, look at how beliefs and values can influence decisions and practice effective listening skills. In the second lesson the main focus is solving problems. Students are provided with a toolkit to solving problems called POOCH and are given the opportunity to solve real problems which young people face. Students also explore ways to care for themselves when dealing with other people’s problems; this includes where they can find help and advice within their local community. |
