School for Student Leadership

School for Student Leadership - Our Aims. Our Mission.
Courtney Higlett

Courtney HiglettI am very excited to begin my career at the Alpine School in 2018 as a graduate teacher. I have a passion for alternative, innovative education. During my schooling, I made sure to make the most of all opportunities that were available to me. Whether it was to compete in high-level sport, take on a crazy adventure camp, travel overseas or step up to lead my classmates, I was always ready for a challenge. This is why as a teacher; I can’t wait to work with opportunistic students that are ready to grow on a personal and social level. To inspire, motivate and build resilience in students in a harsh alpine environment, is a challenge that I am more than willing to accept.

Although I have put my love of the ocean, surfing and lifesaving on hold for the moment, I have found a passion for the snowy mountains. I love snowboarding and skiing, and have been lucky enough to instruct adults and children at Mt Hotham and in Niseko, Japan. I love learning about different cultures and ways of life overseas.

I am very grateful to be a teacher at the Alpine School. Year 9 is an important time in a student’s life to build self-awareness and begin to develop an understanding of what it really means to be a leader. To future students, here is an invitation to join me here at the Alpine School. Put your heart into it and draw new lines to show others that they can do the same. Be a leader and build resilience as you experience one of the most challenging, yet rewarding experiences of your lives.
