SSL Program Update - Alpine School & Gnurad-Gundidj Campuses for Term2 2020 and beyond.

COVID-19 Update

Dear students, parents, guardians, carers, families and colleagues

This applies to schools and families enrolled to attend Alpine and Gnurad-Gundidj campuses in term 2.

At this stage, all programs at the School for Student Leadership Campuses have been postponed. Please read on.

We are receiving enquiries about the impact of Covid19 on the potential operation of our programs in term 2 and beyond. Of course, the health and wellbeing of students and staff is our number one concern. We take direction from the Department of Education, Victorian and Australian Governments on the matter of operation or not.

The Premier has extended Stage 3 restrictions until midnight 11 May. As our program is a residential experience, the ability to socially isolate and distance is nearly impossible and unfeasible with Stage 3 restrictions. We cannot operate safely, compliantly and normally with the current advice.

However, please also note the following:

  • All Victorian Government Schools are following the Camps and Excursions advice.
    The advice is:
All camps scheduled to start from and including Tuesday 17 March must be postponed and rescheduled, or, if there is no other option, cancelled.

As a result, schools and students who were scheduled to attend in term 2 should be aware that there WILL NOT be a program at this stage.

We are waiting on advice from DET regarding the ongoing operation of our school in the current COVID19 emergency environment.

We are exploring a range of opportunities to provide remote learning, Webinars and other support for schools and students who would normally have participated in our program.

We will contact individual schools this week about their needs and desires to have our assistance with remote learning.

While there is no definite end point to COVID19 effects on our operation, we remain committed to enable students to participate in our programs in future if we can reschedule.

We will be making continued and ongoing assessments and taking regular advice from DET about if or when we can continue operations.

School For Student Leadership

School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) initiative offering a unique residential education experience for year nine students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and team learning projects sourced from students' home regions. There are four campuses in iconic locations across Victoria. The Alpine School Campus is located at Dinner Plain in the Victorian Alps. Snowy River Campus is near the mouth of the Snowy River at Marlo in east Gippsland. The third site is adjacent to Mount Noorat near Camperdown in Victoria’s Western District, and is called Gnurad-Gundidj. After consultation with the local aboriginal community, this name represents both the indigenous name of the local area and an interpretation of the statement "belonging to this place". Our fourth and newest campus, Don Valley Campus is located at Don Valley in the Yarra Ranges.

We acknowledge the rich heritage of the Gunaikurnai, Jaitmatang, Monero-Ngarigo, Gunditjmara and Wurundjeri people as custodians of the lands of our school. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their Elders past and present, and especially whose children attend our school.
